Immediately following the procedure, it is normal to experience a feeling similar to mild sunburn that may include redness and skin dryness that may last up to a few hours. Most patients resume normal activities the next day after a Venus Viva treatment. After the session, it is recommended to wait 12 hours before using any skin product and 24 hours before using a mineral make-up on the treated area. Sun exposure should be avoided for the first 48 hours after a treatment. Before and after treatments, an SPF of 50 should be used daily to protect treated areas.

The practitioner will administer the Venus Viva treatment using a small probe that resembles something like a hair dryer. This is placed against the skin surface and a sound is emitted for about one second as a radiofrequency pulse is delivered to the skin. The probe is then moved to the adjacent, untreated area and the process is repeated moving in a step-wise fashion across the skin surface. In this way, the entire target area can receive full strength treatment in as little as 15 minutes.The fractional radiofrequency pulses emitted from the probe are ablative, meaning the cause very small microscopic pores in the skin of heated dead skin cells, which later promote new collagen fibrils. This can induce warming and sensitivity in the skin that usually subsides within a few hours. To combat this sensitivity, we have all our patients take an antihistamine tablet prior to their treatment. For some patients, this sensitivity is similar in intensity to a mild sunburn that can last up to 36 hours. For this reason, some patients request the use of a mild topical numbing agent before beginning Venus Viva treatments. Such treatment should be applied 30 minutes before the start of a treatment session.
