Can darker skin types be treated?
The Lumenis Lightsheer system has FDA clearance to safely treat darker skin types and tanned skin. The most important criteria are that the hair should have some melanin (colour) and that the colour of the hair should be darker than the colour of the skin. For the darker skin types it is recommended to first have a test patch done to determine the exact right setting.
What areas can be treated?
Laser hair removal can be performed on almost any area of the body for men and women – from small areas such as your upper lip, underarms, bikini area, chin, neck, and face, to larger areas such as arms, legs, chest, back, buttocks and abdomen.
How long does a treatment take?
The client is required to shave the area to be treated, a day before or ond the day of the treatment. the hair of the treatment area off a day before the treatment. How long the treatment will take depends on the size of the area. Facial and bikini areas are usually completed in 20 – 30 minutes. Larger areas, like a man’s back, take about 30 - 40 minutes. Full Legs about 45 minutes
Can I be treated while taking medications?

- Antibiotics as well as oral steroids has to be discontinued 5 days prior to treatment.
- Retinoic creams, as well as Glycolic creams and cortisone creams like have to be discontinued 5 days prior on the area to be treated.
How many treatment and how far apart?
On average you will need 6 to 10 treatments. Spaced 4 to 6 weeks apart. More sessions may be needed for some individuals with persistent hair or for clients with PCOS.Coarser hair responds faster to treatment. Lighter or finer hair like the hair on the upper lip may also need more session than the coarser hair under the arms or the bikini hair.
How does laser hair removal compare to other laser hair removal methods?
Shaving, waxing, and depilatory creams are all temporary methods which must be repeated on a regular basis. In the long run this becomes very time consuming and over years also very expensive. These methods can also cause a lot of ingrown hairs that can leave you with pigmentation marks. Laser hair removal offers longer lasting results and will stop ingrown hair.
What can I expect during the treatment / Does it hurt ?
The High Speed hand piece used for bigger areas is Pain Free. During the treatment, the laser is pulsed for only a fraction of a second. The ET hand piece ( small hand piece) that is being used on the smaller areas and face will provide a slight sting, but it has a cooling tip for extra comfort and is still relatively pain free compared to waxing and IPL hair removal treatments.
What can I expect after a treatment?
For the first 2 weeks after every treatment you will not see much of a difference and you can keep on shaving as normal. Two Weeks after your treatment the hair will fall out patchy. You will then experience a no-growth period in the treated area and will hardly have to shave. 2 Weeks after that, the next growth stage will start growing out and you can start shaving again. At that stage it is time for your next appointment. After every treatment you will notice that the hair growth will be less than before and it will get finer with every subsequent treatment.
Can all hair colours be treated?
The laser emits a beam which targets the melanin (colour pigment located in the hair). The beam of light is absorbed by the pigment in the hair follicle. Grey, red of blonde hair can therefore not be treated because of the lack of colour pigment.
What can I expect at the end of my treatment package?
You can expect a 75 to 95% permanent reduction in hair. If, after your series of 6 treatments, you could benefit from more treatments, you can pay per treatments and get a 30% discount per treatment. Hormonal imbalance may affect the long term effectiveness of hair reduction especially on the chin area. Upper lip is sometimes also a difficult area and may also need more sessions.
Are there any restrictions on my activity after treatment?
You can return to work or normal activities immediately following your laser hair removal procedure Post treatment reactions vary. Most people experience no side effects at all, though few exhibit superficial scabs, itching or some short-term local reddening. This may last from a few minutes to one to 2 days depending on the area treated and your skin's sensitivity. It is advisable to keep the skin protected from exposure to direct sunlight for about 3 days.
How should I prepare for my first treatment?
In preparation for your first treatment and every subsequent treatment:
- The hair needs to be shaved a day before or on the day of the treatment. The Diode laser targets the anatomical structures below the skin. Surface hair therefore needs to be shaved of otherwise it will interfere with this process.
