How to treat Maskne:
A skin condition known as Maskne, defined as acne-related issues arising from wearing masks, is proliferating during the coronavirus era.
The stress from the pandemic, as well as the local irritation from your mask, with added irritation from us using make-up underneath our masks to cover up breakouts and skin irritation, can make maskne more likely.
The condition arises because when you talk or breathe, your mask traps in a lot of hot air, which creates a humid environment and an ideal setting for yeast, bacteria and other flora to grow. But….Lets not panic any further , at Durban laser clinic we have an easy and effective 3 Step Solution for you regarding how to treat Maskne.
Step 1: Cleansing
Cleansing is the important first step for all regimes, as it will remove surface debris, daily impurities and makeup on the skin. We recommend this step twice a day, morning and night. Cleansing the skin will expose fresh, healthy skin cells as it increases cell turnover and will remove the dead skin cells on the surface of the skin.
If you tend to wear makeup during the day, I suggest a double cleanse in the evening. The same applies in the summer months if you find you are applying SPF throughout the day, then I would recommend to double cleanse. This is to make sure all makeup residue and SPF is removed from your pores after each day.
Step 2: Scrub/Exfoliate
This is the second step to help with the removal of dead skin cells ( which clog your pores) will then help with further product penetration. Exfoliating your skin 2-3 times a week will boost your circulation to target fresh, new skin cells. This step will not only make your skin feel very smooth but your skin will look healthy and radiant too!
Step 3: Tone/Oil-Control
Oily skin can clog pores and lead to increased acne breakouts, which is why we need to control oil with a non drying anti- bacterial solution.
Using an oil control toner will enhance product penetration into the skin. This is the best step to help fight breakouts, ageing and keeping the skin looking healthy. Those of you already using this product will know that it leaves your skin feeling very fresh as well as prevent your skin from getting oily and inflamed under you mask.!
